Israel Attacks Suwayda Region in Syria

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, an Israeli warplane carried out a strike in Suwayda, a province in southern Syria predominantly inhabited by the Druze community.

The aerial assault targeted the heart of the region, intensifying already heightened tensions in the area.

According to an official state-controlled news outlet, “Israeli occupation aircraft targets the city of Suwayda.” The airstrike adds a new layer to the ongoing unrest in the region.

In a related development, Israeli Army Radio reported that Israeli forces also fired upon a Syrian military tank after it moved into the city of Suwayda.

This marked a direct military confrontation between the two forces amid the worsening security situation.

Just a day prior, violent confrontations between armed Bedouin tribal combatants and Druze militias erupted in Suwayda.

As stated by the Syrian Interior Ministry, these skirmishes resulted in the deaths of over 30 individuals, with close to 100 more sustaining injuries.
