Ukrainian Interceptor Drones Deployed To Counter Shahed Uavs

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was reported to Ukrinform by Yuriy Myronenko, Head of the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies at the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

“There is no single universal solution that could instantly neutralize the threat posed by Russian Shahed drones. This is a complex, multi-component challenge that military personnel, engineers, analysts, IT specialists, and manufacturers are working on every day. One such element is our domestically produced interceptor drones, the development of which began more than six months ago. Today, we are seeing the first results: these unmanned systems are already being used to destroy enemy Shahed drones and are undergoing scaling-up, production is expanding in response to the increasing number of Russian attacks,” Myronenko stated.

At the same time, he emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to countering aerial attacks using all components of air defense.

“Artificial intelligence plays a key role in these solutions, both in targeting and in adapting to different attack scenarios. This enables not only reactive measures but also proactive threat anticipation. However, the effectiveness of this component is possible only as part of a comprehensive countermeasure strategy. Therefore, other measures are being implemented in parallel: enhancing radar coverage, strengthening anti-aircraft components, deploying mobile fire groups, and integrating civil aviation into air defense groups. Training of new specialists and increasing the number of combat units are also ongoing,” he underscored.

Myronenko further noted that the emergence of new drone countermeasure systems is not a standalone solution but part of a comprehensive national program that is already operational and will demonstrate even greater effectiveness soon.

“We are moving confidently toward ensuring that the system protecting Ukrainian cities from aerial terror is not only effective but also technological, flexible, and capable of scaling to meet any threat scenario,” he added.

As reported by Ukrinform, Yurii Ihnat, Head of the Communications Directorate of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated that Russian forces are increasing the number of aerial attack assets used in assaults on Ukraine, including strike UAVs and decoy drones.
