(MENAFN) Israel has no legal or moral right to pursue regime change in Iran through military action, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told RT’s Rick Sanchez on Wednesday. She criticized Israel’s bombing campaign and accused its Western allies of abandoning their professed values whenever it comes to supporting the Jewish state.

Israel began launching missile strikes against Iran last Friday, citing concerns that Tehran was close to developing nuclear weapons—an allegation Iran continues to deny. In response, Iran launched a series of retaliatory missile attacks, escalating hostilities between the two nations.

Zakharova questioned the basis of Israel’s aggression: “What has Iran done wrong? Why is it being bombed?” She argued that Israel's dislike of Iran's political system doesn’t justify launching military strikes. “If a regime hasn’t attacked you, you have no right to try to change it,” she emphasized.

She stated that concerns over Iran’s nuclear program should be handled through international law and diplomacy—not unilaterally through force. Zakharova also criticized Israel for failing to provide concrete evidence supporting its claims that Iran is close to producing weapons of mass destruction. “If they have such proof, why don’t they show it?” she asked.

Zakharova further condemned Western nations for turning a blind eye to Israel’s actions. “The West has conveniently forgotten about human rights and civilian lives,” she said, noting the high civilian toll.

According to Iranian officials, Israeli strikes have killed at least 224 people—including 74 women and children—and injured 1,800 more. Israel has reported that 24 civilians have been killed by Iranian retaliatory strikes, with nearly 600 others wounded.
