Bungalow Occupation: J & K Govt Issues Show-Cause Notice To Junaid Mattu
According to officials, Mattu was allotted Government House No. H.O.D-3 in November 2018 during his mayoral tenure, with the allotment valid only up to April 2019.“No extension has been granted by the government since then,” the notice from Deputy Director Estates Kashmir states.
The notice accuses Mattu of“illegally” retaining the premises without any formal extension order. It adds that multiple notices and verbal requests to vacate the property have gone unheeded.
Mattu had challenged the eviction in the J&K High Court through WP(C) No. 2114/2024, but the petition was disposed of on May 9, 2025.
“As on date you are not entitled to retain the premises in absence of any statutory provision,” the notice reads, directing him to vacate or submit valid proof by July 15. Failing that, formal eviction will be initiated under the J&K Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1988.
