Arab League Chief Urges Unified Efforts To Counter Islamophobia
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
CAIRO, July 8 (KUNA) -- The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmad Abul-Gheit emphasized on Tuesday the urgent need to combat and prevent the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia.
Speaking at the International Conference on Combating Hatred against Islam, Abul-Gheit warned that Islamophobia is a dangerous and escalating issue that undermines values of coexistence and mutual respect.
He stressed the importance of addressing its root causes, including media incitement, ignorance of Islamic values, and the false association between Islam and terrorism, and called for a comprehensive response involving governments, international organizations, and civil society.
Abul-Gheit highlighted the Arab League's previous resolutions condemning religious hatred and noted ongoing work to update its Unified Strategy for the Alliance of Civilizations (2025-2030).
He also underscored the crucial role of traditional and digital media in promoting tolerance, diversity, and acceptance of others, warning that biased media coverage, which magnifies errors and spreads negative stereotypes, only serves to fuel extremist discourse and deepen divisions.
The conference brings together representatives from the Arab League, Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Al-Azhar, Christian institutions, and several Arab states to discuss strategies for promoting dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence. (end)
