Musk Reveals Reason Behind His Criticism of Trump
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump's move to expand the federal budget deficit instead of cutting expenditures has triggered sharp criticism from Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur revealed.
Responding to a user on X who questioned his shift from admiring Trump to denouncing him, Musk pointed to the president’s economic policy, “Increasing the deficit from an already insane $2 [trillion] under Biden to $2.5T. This will bankrupt the country,” Musk wrote.
Musk had previously backed Trump’s political comeback last November and, after Trump’s inauguration, took on a prominent role in the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a Trump administration initiative aimed at slashing federal costs.
However, their alliance quickly unraveled. Musk resigned from his DOGE position last month and has since become a vocal critic of Trump’s hallmark legislation, the One Big, Beautiful Bill. The sweeping bill boosts federal spending, slashes funding for social programs, and significantly raises the budget deficit ceiling.
Tensions have escalated into a public feud, with Trump accusing Musk of having received “more government subsidies ‘than any human being in history,’” and reportedly weighing the possibility of deporting the South African-born businessman.
On July 4, Trump signed the One Big, Beautiful Bill into law after it narrowly passed both chambers of Congress.
In response, Musk made good on a previous vow to establish his own political movement if the legislation was enacted. On Independence Day, he formally introduced the America Party, describing it as the political home for the “80% in the middle.”
Musk aims to have the party operational by next year’s midterm elections. He plans to target select congressional races, leveraging the “razor-thin legislative margins” to wield “the deciding vote on contentious laws.”
