Doha: Thee FIVB Board of Administration has selected Qatar to host the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Boys' U17 World Championship.

This marks a historic moment for the nation, as it will be the first time Qatar has ever hosted a volleyball world championship in any age or gender category.

The Qatari capital will welcome the prestigious tournament from August 19 to 29, 2026. This second edition of the biennial event will see an expanded format, with 24 national teams competing for the title, an increase from the 16 teams in the inaugural championship.

Furthermore, teams will now be permitted to have rosters of up to 14 players.

The inaugural U17 Boys' World Championship was held in 2024, with Italy claiming the historic first title.

In parallel, the FIVB also announced that Chile will host the 2026 Girls' U17 World Championship in Santiago from August 5 to 15.

Now the competition format of the biennial event has been changed and, instead of 16 teams, each tournament will feature 24 participating teams, in line with the U21 and the U19 FIVB Volleyball World Championships.

However, as of 2026, the teams can participate with up to 14 players on their rosters.
