ICC Falls Victim to “Sophisticated” Cyberattack
(MENAFN) The International Criminal Court (ICC) has fallen victim to a "sophisticated" and "targeted" cyberattack, the institution revealed in a statement Monday.
"Late last week, the International Criminal Court (“ICC” or “the Court”) detected a new, sophisticated and targeted cybersecurity incident, which has now been contained," the statement read.
This breach follows a similar cyberattack from 2023, but the ICC stressed that the issue was "swiftly discovered, confirmed and contained." An investigation is underway to evaluate the impact and "mitigate any effects of the incident."
"The Court considers it essential to inform the public and its States Parties about such incidents as well as efforts to address them, and calls for continued support in the face of such challenges. Such support ensures the Court’s capacity to implement its critical mandate of justice and accountability, which is a shared responsibility of all States Parties," the ICC said.
Germany's Foreign Ministry voiced "deep concern" over the breach, emphasizing the global significance of international legal institutions.
"The international legal order and its institutions are a global civilizational success. Institutions such as the International Criminal Court must not be undermined by threats or attacks," the Ministry posted Tuesday on X.
