Trump Mulls Deporting Musk After Sharp Criticism of Tax Bill

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that the White House might explore the possibility of deporting billionaire Elon Musk, following the entrepreneur’s fierce criticism of the president's tax and spending plan.

Musk, originally from South Africa and now a naturalized U.S. citizen, posted a series of sharp criticisms on social media over the weekend, targeting Trump’s "big, beautiful bill."

The tech mogul condemned the bill, accusing it of worsening the U.S. national debt.

In response on Tuesday, Trump took to social media to counter Musk’s remarks, suggesting that the Tesla CEO was upset by the bill's removal of tax incentives for electric vehicles.

This marks the latest chapter in a back-and-forth feud between the two wealthy figures, who have engaged in a series of sharp exchanges.

Trump’s expansive bill, which passed through the Senate on Tuesday, proposes increased funding for defense, energy development, and border security initiatives.

The president has hinted that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—an organization Musk helped establish to streamline government operations—might be used to scrutinize Musk’s companies.

"Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far," Trump wrote on social media. "Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this?"

Trump also threatened to strip the government subsidies that benefit Musk’s companies.

In retaliation, Musk warned that he would work to punish Republican lawmakers who supported Trump’s bill.

"We won't know for some time if Musk follows through on his threats against Republicans. That could take the form of funding primary challengers, helping run independent candidates in red states as campaigns, or something else," noted Christopher Galdieri, a political science professor at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, in comments to media.
