Demining Coalition Raises EUR 93M For Ukraine Since Year-Start

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The number was voiced during the 14th meeting of the working group of the Coalition member states, held in Reykjavik (Iceland), Ukrinform reports with reference to the Ministry of Defense .

One of the main outcomes of the meeting was the detailing of proposals for contributions from the coalition member states to equip and train demining units from the State Special Transport Service and Support Forces Command.

According to the head of the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety, Colonel Ruslan Berehulia,“last year we achieved a lot together: real capabilities were deployed on the ground; trained specialists operate in the most challenging environment; every day equipment provided by partners saves people's lives.”

Berehulia thanked the governments of Iceland and Lithuania, DMCC co-leaders, for their consistency and foresight in building up the infrastructure required for demining and the safe recovery of Ukraine.

The Coalition of Demining Capabilities for Ukraine was established in February 2024 within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.

Twenty-three states have joined the Coalition. Besides Lithuania and Iceland, these are Belgium, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Moldova, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, France, Finland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the potentially contaminated area across Ukraine shrank by more than 20% against 2022 and currently amounts to about 137,000 sq. km.
