Colombia landslide causes death of twenty two civilians

(MENAFN) The number of fatalities from the devastating landslide in Colombia on June 24 has climbed to 22, with eight individuals still unaccounted for, according to updates provided Friday.

Authorities from the Antioquia governor’s office confirmed that additional bodies were recovered in the Bello and Altos de Oriente neighborhoods of Medellín, where heavy rainfall triggered the deadly collapse.

Rescue operations are ongoing, involving nearly 400 personnel dedicated to locating those still missing and recovering victims buried beneath the debris.

Officials warned that many homes in the affected areas were built on steep slopes, making them particularly vulnerable to landslides. These structures have now been officially classified as high-risk.

Since March, Colombia has experienced relentless rainfall, leading to widespread damage and loss of life in multiple regions across the country.
