Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), through its Marine Protection Department and the use of drone surveillance technology, has identified an environmental violation involving the illegal discharge of diesel fuel into the sea by a fishing vessel (locally known as a lanj).

The violation, which occurred due to negligence in handling a diesel leak within the vessel's engine compartment, resulted in the unauthorised release of fuel into Qatar's marine environment.
Authorities confirmed that the incident caused a localized impact, with no evidence of widespread contamination or long-term environmental damage. Nevertheless, the ministry has taken the necessary legal actions against the violator in accordance with national environmental regulations.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting Qatar's marine ecosystems and emphasized the importance of proper waste and fuel management aboard all marine vessels.
