Russia Stands Ready to Assist Iran
(MENAFN) Russia is prepared to support Iran in multiple ways during the ongoing escalation in the Middle East, contingent on Tehran’s specific requirements, the Kremlin announced on Monday.
“It all depends on what Iran needs. We have offered our mediation efforts. This is specific. We have stated our position, this is also a very important manifestation, a form of support for the Iranian side,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters during a press briefing.
Since June 13, Israel and Iran have been engaged in aerial confrontations after Tel Aviv launched a surprise assault on several Iranian locations, including military and nuclear installations.
This prompted Tehran to carry out retaliatory attacks.
Meanwhile, the United States conducted strikes early Sunday on three key Iranian nuclear sites, with US President Donald Trump asserting significant damage to the facilities and their "obliteration."
Regarding the meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow, Peskov mentioned the discussions would provide an opportunity to exchange viewpoints and allow Tehran to communicate its proposals and perspective on the current crisis to Moscow.
Peskov also noted a rise in the number of participants involved in the ongoing escalation, adding: "And of course, we condemn this and express deep regret in this regard."
He further said that Iran had been a recurring topic during recent talks between Putin and Trump, although the Russian president had not been briefed on Sunday’s strikes.
