NHRC Chairperson Elected To OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission
Istanbul: Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), H E Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah has been elected as a member of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The election took place on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, currently underway in Istanbul, Turkiye.
This election stands as a testament to the distinguished position of the State of Qatar in advancing and protecting human rights, and highlights the country's active, credible, and constructive role in international human rights platforms. It further reflects the international community's recognition and appreciation of Qatari expertise and national capabilities in this vital field.
The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission serves as the OIC's principal advisory body on human rights. It plays a critical role in promoting the values of justice, equality, and human dignity, as well as in monitoring and supporting the human rights situation across OIC member states in line with the principles outlined in the OIC Charter.
