EgyptAir stops main Middle East routes
(MENAFN) EgyptAir has halted flights to several important Middle Eastern destinations due to worsening security concerns in the region, the airline announced on Sunday. This move follows escalating clashes between Israel and Iran, which began after Israel conducted airstrikes on Iranian sites, including a uranium enrichment facility in Natanz and targeted senior military officials. In response, Iran launched numerous ballistic missile attacks on Israel, with both countries continuing to exchange strikes.
The airline confirmed it has suspended flights to Beirut, Amman, Baghdad, and Erbil, citing the safety of passengers as the reason. These suspensions will stay in effect until regional conditions improve.
Similarly, Ethiopian Airlines announced on Monday it would suspend flights between Addis Ababa and Tel Aviv until June 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, Russia’s embassy in Egypt issued a travel warning for Russian tourists in Sharm el-Sheikh, urging increased caution due to the resort’s proximity—about 190 kilometers—to the Israeli border. The advisory noted that up to 55,000 Russian tourists might currently be in Egypt.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s airstrikes, describing them as a dangerous escalation that violates international law and the UN Charter.
