NITI Aayog Prepares Long-Term Energy Roadmap To Meet India's Future Demand
The roadmap, which will extend until 2070, focuses on decarbonising key sectors such as mobility, power generation, agriculture, cooking, and industry. As India continues to urbanize and industrialize, the need for energy is expected to rise sharply.
To address this, the plan aims to promote large-scale adoption of clean technologies and improve energy efficiency across all sectors.
A major component of the strategy is to gradually reduce greenhouse gas emissions while keeping in view India's developmental goals. NITI Aayog plans to support this vision through data-driven analysis, inter-ministerial coordination, and engagement with states.
The roadmap will include specific strategies such as the expansion of renewable energy, electrification of transport and cooking, and promoting cleaner fuels. It also aims to enhance energy infrastructure, including grid upgrades, storage capacity, and charging networks.
Additionally, policy reforms will be recommended to facilitate private investment and encourage innovation. These include pricing reforms, fiscal incentives, and frameworks to guide both central and state governments.
The energy roadmap is expected to play a vital role in helping India achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2070, while also ensuring energy access and economic growth. Once finalized, the roadmap will become a cornerstone of India's climate and energy planning in the coming decades.
