Syrian Airline Fly Sham Unveils First Flight from Damascus to UAE
(MENAFN) Fly Sham, Syria’s newly formed airline, initiated its first commercial flight on Wednesday from Damascus International Airport to Abu Dhabi. This milestone marks the beginning of a significant expansion in Syria’s air travel network, according to a local news outlet.
The airline, registered in Syria but supported by Emirati capital, currently operates a fleet of four aircraft. The company aims to increase this number to 15 planes by the end of the year, revealed Hamdi Khalaf, the airline’s commercial director.
"This is the first Emirati investment to move from planning to actual implementation in Syria," the news outlet quoted Khalaf as saying. "We're a supportive partner to the national airline and aim to provide a reliable alternative."
On its debut day, Fly Sham also launched flights to Sharjah. Khalaf noted that the airline has ambitions to extend its services to cities in Saudi Arabia and Europe in the near term.
Officials attribute the rollout of these commercial flights to the rising demand for air travel in and out of Syria.
