Argentina’s Ex-President Fernandez Faces Six-Year Prison Sentence

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Argentina’s Supreme Court confirmed the six-year prison sentence handed to former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner for irregularities linked to public works contracts during her tenure.

The nation’s highest judicial body dismissed an appeal from Fernandez’s defense team, affirming both the custodial sentence and her permanent disqualification from holding any public office.

This verdict is tied to the "Vialidad case," which scrutinized the allocation of 51 road construction contracts in Santa Cruz province to firms owned by businessman Lazaro Baez during the presidencies of Nestor Kirchner (2003-2007) and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (2007-2015), Nestor Kirchner’s widow.

Fernandez has consistently denied any wrongdoing, labeling the charges as politically driven harassment.
