Kuwait Keen On Boosting Cooperation With UN Over Disability Resolutions - Min.


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, June 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is keen on boosting cooperation with the UN to implement resolutins and agreements related to people with special needs, and supporting empowerment policies at national and global level, the Gulf nation Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Minister said.
Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah made the statement to KUNA after meeting with UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammad, late Tuesday, on sidelines of the 18th UN Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP18).
She said they have discussed strengthening technical cooperation with competent UN agencies to support Kuwait's effort to implement COSP.
Al-Huwailah said the State of Kuwait's humanitarian and constitutional principles were the driving force behind dealing with the disabilities' issues, as well as having relevant legislations and national programs.
She said Kuwait formed a national committee to follow up implementation of COSP and update the disability index 2025, in addition to expanding relevant educational and economic policies.
Kuwait believes in the multi-party system and appreciates UN role in boosting justice and equality, she said.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah and Kuwait Permanent representative to the UN Tareq Al-Bannai. (end)
