A total of 27 Dubai Police officers are now certified to be first responders for accidents involving electric and hybrid vehicles, becoming the first in the region to complete this specialised training. The programme, which is the first of its kind, trained the officers on how to safely respond to road incidents involving electric and hybrid vehicles, particularly those fitted with high-voltage systems.

“With the increasing number of electric vehicles on our roads, it's vital that our officers are equipped with the right knowledge and internationally recognised safety procedures,” said Brigadier Juma Bin Suwaidan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic.“This training will help prevent potential injuries and electrocution risks when handling high-voltage vehicle systems at accident scenes.”

He emphasised the programme's critical role in improving road safety and raising awareness around the complexities of modern vehicle technologies. He stressed the importance of providing technical support and training to first-response personnel to ensure professional and efficient handling of electric vehicle accidents and to avoid the risks of electric shock resulting from high-voltage systems, which could be fatal upon direct exposure.

The programme, held in collaboration with ENOC-Autopro and the "On-the-Go" initiative, celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of trained officers under the region's pioneering First Responder Training Programme.

Yousif Harib, Executive Director of Retail Operations at ENOC, highlighted the pioneering nature of the programme and reiterated ENOC's commitment to supporting Dubai Police's ongoing road safety campaigns.
“Ensuring first responders are properly trained to manage electric vehicle accidents is essential,” he said.“This training is vital in mitigating life-threatening hazards, such as electric shocks from high-voltage components.”

Each participant in the programme is now certified by the UK-based International Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), a globally recognised authority in the field.

Region's first EV safety training

The programme was delivered by Autopro Academy, an internationally accredited training centre, and sets the foundation for future training cycles tailored to meet the operational demands of Dubai's law enforcement.

Future sessions are already being planned as part of an ongoing collaboration to ensure that Dubai Police officers remain up to date with technological advancements and are fully prepared to respond to emerging road safety challenges.
