(MENAFN) The U.S. State Department has given preliminary approval for the potential transfer of AW-119Kx helicopters and associated materials to Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to a statement released by the Pentagon on Tuesday.

The projected value of the deal is approximately USD100 million, the Pentagon noted.

In an official announcement, the Pentagon stated, "The proposed sale will improve the capability of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) to meet current and future threats by supporting regional and NATO cooperation exercises, protecting Bosnia and Herzegovinian national security interests in the country’s mountainous and inaccessible terrain."

This acquisition is expected to enhance the nation’s defense readiness and strengthen its role in collaborative regional and NATO security operations, particularly given the country’s rugged topography.

The primary supplier for this prospective agreement will be Leonardo Helicopters U.S., operating under AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corporation, headquartered in Philadelphia, the Pentagon added.

Furthermore, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency formally submitted the mandatory notification to Congress regarding the potential transaction on Tuesday, fulfilling the required legal process for foreign military sales.
