Chinese Firm Seeks AI Capable of Translating Animal Sounds
(MENAFN) A Chinese tech enterprise, Baidu, has submitted a patent request for a new artificial intelligence (AI) system aimed at interpreting animal noises into human language, as reported by the media on Wednesday.
According to the report, Baidu initiated the patent filing in December, although the China National Intellectual Property Administration only disclosed it publicly this Tuesday.
The patent outlines a technique that involves collecting various data from animals — including sounds, physical movements, behavioral changes, and other physiological cues — to evaluate their emotional conditions, which are subsequently translated into a specific human language.
Baidu stated in the application that the framework utilizes several AI subfields, including "machine learning", "deep learning", and "natural language processing", to perform these translations.
In cases where the system encounters an unfamiliar sound that does not correspond with existing data, researchers step in to manually categorize the input, thereby allowing the model to undergo further training.
While the patent filing demonstrates substantial technological aspirations, it remains unclear whether Baidu intends to eventually launch the product for commercial use.
Moreover, submitting a patent does not ensure it will be granted.
