Ukrainian kamikaze drones specifically designed to cause as much damage as possible


(MENAFN) Ukrainian kamikaze drones that attacked civilian areas in the Russian city of Kursk on Tuesday were specifically designed to cause as much damage as possible, according to Russian officials. The drones, loaded with ball bearings, were intended to maximize casualties, and their strike on residential buildings resulted in one death and nine injuries, with six of the victims requiring hospitalization. Kursk Region Acting Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein condemned the attack as a "cruel crime" and a reflection of the "agony of the enemy."

The Russian Investigative Committee labeled the attack as terrorism, emphasizing that the drones were intended to inflict maximum harm on civilians and infrastructure. The drones, which were one-way and equipped with explosives, left ball bearings scattered at the impact sites, as shown in photos provided by the Kursk Region administration.

In addition to damaging several residential buildings, the drones also struck an ambulance station, causing significant damage to 11 parked vehicles. The damage was severe, with photos showing that parts of residential buildings, including balconies, were completely destroyed. Some areas of the buildings continued to smolder hours after the attack.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that it had intercepted 115 Ukrainian drones during the night, with 109 of them targeting the Kursk Region. Local media also noted that numerous explosions were heard as air defenses repelled the assault.

This attack follows accusations from Kiev last week that Russian forces targeted civilians in Sumy, though Moscow has denied the claim, asserting the missile strike targeted a high-level military meeting and that Ukrainian forces used civilians as human shields.
