ILO Vows Continued Aid For Azerbaijan's Safe And Healthy Work Environment Efforts

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28. As the International Labour Organization (ILO), we remain committed to continuing our support for Azerbaijan in its ongoing efforts to establish a safe and healthy working environment, said Gilbert Houngbo, ILO Director-General, Trend reports.

In a video message addressing the "Impact of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence on Employment" conference in Baku, dedicated to World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the 120th anniversary of the first collective agreement, Houngbo emphasized that one of the main priorities of the ILO is ensuring safe and healthy working environments, which are fundamental workers' rights.

"However, millions of workers around the world still lose their lives, get injured, or fall ill due to their work. Technology can play a key role in changing this. This is why the topic of the conference, 'Impact of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence on Employment,' is of great importance. Artificial intelligence and digitalization offer vast opportunities for enhancing labor safety, monitoring risks, and increasing productivity. But these technologies also raise significant concerns, which we are all aware of. Without careful and ethical application, tools like worker surveillance and algorithmic management can endanger workers' rights, personal freedoms, and well-being. To prevent this and ensure that artificial intelligence is used for beneficial purposes in the workplace, a human-centered approach is essential," Houngbo added.
