Minsk Group Structures No Longer Serve Any Purpose - FM

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25.​ There is no logical justification for the continued existence of the Minsk Group and its structures, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov at a joint press conference in Baku with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Trend reports.

“The termination of the 30-year occupation of about 20 percent of the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan by military and diplomatic means in 2020 created new realities, a new status quo in the South Caucasus. Thus, for the first time in a long time, the foundation for normal development has been laid. Our country, after the restoration of territorial integrity in 2020 and full restoration of sovereignty in 2023, offered Armenia to turn the page even faster and start working on an agreement on peace and interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This process, initiated by Azerbaijan, took 2.5 years, and in March 2025, an agreement on the text was reached,” he said.

The Minister noted that Azerbaijan's expectations on this issue were discussed in detail with the OSCE Secretary General.

“From my side, my esteemed colleague and the members of the delegation were once again informed about the views of Azerbaijan, the existence of claims to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in the Constitution of Armenia, and the necessity of its solution by amending the Constitution of Armenia. Another topic is well known to the Secretary-General. That theme is the complete liquidation of the Minsk institutions, as well as the Minsk Group, and reaching consensus within the organization on that. First of all, naturally, it should be realized based on the appeal of Azerbaijan and Armenia. This institution has nothing to do with the current situation. At one time in the 1990s, this institution was created precisely to solve the Karabakh issue. Following the restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, there is no longer a logical explanation for the preservation of the Minsk institutions,” Bayramov said.
