In Collaboration with Dubai Health Authority and Fakeeh University Hospital 48 Specialists Explore the Use of AI in Treating Kidney Disease and Diabetes*
(MENAFN- Awareness Marketing Management) A total of 48 doctors and specialists explored the role of artificial intelligence in treating kidney disease and diabetes during the 25th edition of the Nephrology, Metabolic Syndrome, and Organ Transplantation Conference. The event was organized by Fakeeh University Hospital in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority, Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University, University of Sharjah, Emirates Medical Association (Nephrology Society), and the Hayat Organ Donation Society.
The conference reviewed the latest advancements in the treatment of kidney diseases—particularly those associated with heart and liver conditions, immune-related inflammation, and the impact of obesity. It also highlighted how modern medications and technologies, especially artificial intelligence, are helping to address these challenges.
Participants discussed the role of genetic analysis and emerging developments in urine testing for the early detection of individuals at risk of kidney disease—enabling the adoption of effective preventive measures.
Professor Dr. Abdel Basset El Essawy—consultant in Internal Medicine & Nephrology, Visiting Professor of Internal Medicine, researcher at Harvard University, and consultant at Fakeeh University Hospital in Dubai—chaired the conference and highlighted the participation of 48 lecturers, professors, and specialists in this significant medical event. Conference sessions, held on April 12 and 13, brought together experts from Harvard and Johns Hopkins in the U.S., the University of Milan in Italy, as well as institutions in Spain, Australia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Lebanon.
Professor El Essawy noted that 715 physicians and healthcare professionals specializing in nephrology and internal medicine from the UAE and abroad registered for the conference.
He explained that the event also focused on raising awareness about organ donation, particularly from deceased donors, and featured the latest treatments for kidney disease caused by diabetes. These included new medications that simultaneously regulate blood sugar, protect the heart, kidneys, and liver, and support weight loss.
Dr. El Essawy concluded by emphasizing that Fakeeh University Hospital, through its active involvement in such events, continues to play a leading role in advancing medical education, scientific research, and innovation across the UAE and the wider region.
