Tragic firecracker factory explosion causes deaths in southern India
(MENAFN) A catastrophic explosion at a firecracker factory in Kailasapatnam village, Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh, situated in southern India, has led to the deaths of more than eight workers, with seven others wounded, according to local police reports.
The incident occurred roughly 303 kilometers northeast of Amaravati, the state capital. Emergency services quickly transported the injured to local hospitals for immediate treatment.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire originated in the factory's explosive storage area and swiftly spread throughout the premises, trapping numerous workers inside.
"The stockpile of crackers caught fire, and within minutes the entire unit was turned into rubble," a police official said. "There were 15 people working inside the factory at the time of the incident."
D. Niranjan Reddy, a senior fire official, indicated that the explosion and ensuing fire were likely caused by a manual error during the production process.
In India's firecracker sector, accidental explosions pose a common risk, largely attributed to the disregard for safety measures by factory and shop proprietors.
