Earthquake Death Rate in Myanmar Reaches 1,000


(MENAFN) The fatality count from the catastrophic earthquakes in Myanmar has climbed to 1,000, with more than 2,300 individuals injured, according to state media reports on Saturday.

Based on the news agency , the current figures stand at 1,002 dead, 2,376 wounded, and 30 people unaccounted for across the nation.

Global humanitarian and rescue operations are escalating as Myanmar and Thailand recover from the massive tremors that struck on Friday.

A team on board a China Eastern Airlines flight arrived in Myanmar to provide essential relief, as stated in an announcement. “At 8:35 am Saturday, China Eastern Airlines flight MU9003 reached Yangon International Airport, bringing 37 Chinese rescue workers and 5 tons of medical supplies, tents, blankets, and other assistance materials,” the statement revealed.

India has also sent 15 tons of aid, including tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat meals, water purification devices, hygiene kits, medicines, and medical tools.

Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations deployed two planes carrying 120 experts, including anesthesiologists, psychologists, K9 search units, and rescue personnel to support the recovery operations, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The United Nations has allocated an emergency fund of USD5 million to assist Myanmar with earthquake relief while evaluating further needs and organizing the response, as reported by a UN spokesperson.

Additionally, officials in neighboring Thailand confirmed that 11 districts were impacted, with eight fatalities as well as 101 people missing following the collapse of a skyscraper in Bangkok.
