Japan PM Concerned Over Impact Of Trump Auto Tariffs
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
TOKYO, March 28 (KUNA) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Friday expressed concern over the impact on Japanese economy prompted by the imposition of 25 percent tariffs on auto imports announced by US President Donald Trump.
"The impact on the Japanese economy will be extremely large. We will consider the most effective way to make the US understand that imposing high tariffs on Japan will never be in America's interest," Ishiba said at a parliamentary session, expressing hope that the US will exempt Japan from the auto tariffs.
"We are thoroughly examining what kind of impact this will have on which industries and in which areas," the premier said, stressing that the government will take all possible measures to protect domestic industries and employment.
On Wednesday, Trump announced tariffs on cars and car parts shipped to the US, set to take effect on April 3. (end)
