Trump administration plans to slash funding for Global Vaccine Alliance

(MENAFN) The Trump administration is set to cut funding for GAVI, a worldwide health corporation dedicated to expanding vaccine access in developing nations, according to a report by a media source.

This move was revealed in a 281-page spreadsheet, obtained by a news agency, which the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) submitted to Congress on late Monday. The document detailed international aid plans slated for elimination, alongside those that would continue to receive funding.

The report characterized the spreadsheet as a comprehensive outline of the administration's significant departure from decades of U.S. efforts to project itself as a compassionate ally to developing countries and lead the global campaign against deadly infectious diseases.

"The documents provide a sweeping overview of the extraordinary scale of the administration's retreat from a half-century-long effort to present the United States to the developing world as a compassionate ally and to lead the fight against infectious diseases that kill millions of people annually," the media source reported.

A State Department representative confirmed the accuracy of the termination list, stating that "each award terminated was reviewed individually for alignment with agency and administration priorities, and terminations were executed where Secretary (Marco) Rubio determined the award was inconsistent with the national interest or agency policy priorities," as detailed in the report. The move signals a shift in U.S. foreign aid priorities, prompting concerns about the potential impact on global health initiatives.
