BMW, Alibaba Form Strategic Partnership to Merge AI in Vehicles

(MENAFN) BMW, the prominent German automobile manufacturer, and Alibaba, the Chinese technology powerhouse, have declared a strategic collaboration in China aimed at integrating large-language-model (LLM) AI technology into BMW's upcoming vehicle models.

This announcement was made on Wednesday, as reported by a Chinese news agency.

As part of this deal, the two firms will work together to create an engine utilizing Alibaba’s LLM AI model, known as Qwen.

Initially, this AI engine will be incorporated into BMW's Intelligent Personal Assistant, a key feature for the brand's next-generation vehicles, which will include the new Neue Klasse models.

These innovative vehicles are expected to be produced in China and are projected to hit the market by 2026.

Sean Green, President and CEO of BMW Group Region China, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, noting, "Our long-term partnership with Alibaba Group is exemplary of common growth achieved with co-creation.

BMW will work closer with Chinese tech partners on electric mobility and intelligent technologies to write our renewed win-win story," as reported by the Chinese news agency.

Eddie Wu, CEO of Alibaba Group, also spoke about the collaboration, stating, "Our partnership with BMW Group marks a pivotal leap in deploying AI-powered LLMs at the forefront of advanced manufacturing, and Qwen's integration into BMW's in-car systems showcases how AI can revolutionize mobility."
