1.66 Lakh Kanals Of Custodian Land Encroached In J&K

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- A staggering 1.66 lakh kanals of custodian land in Jammu & Kashmir are under illegal occupation, raising serious concerns over the effectiveness of the Evacuee Department in safeguarding these lands.

In a written response to National Conference MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah revealed that 1,62,340 kanals are encroached in Jammu, while 3,983 kanals remain illegally occupied in Kashmir.

The CM further disclosed that only 4,501 kanals have been retrieved so far-2,060 kanals in Kashmir and 2,441 in Jammu.

J&K has a total of 14,49,406 kanals of custodian land, with 13,93,446 kanals in Jammu and 55,960 in Kashmir, the CM stated.
