Awqaf's Zakat Affairs Department Prepares Zakat Al Fitr Parcels For Distribution
Doha, Qatar: The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has completed the packaging of Zakat Al Fitr food parcels in collaboration with a major shopping mall.
The mission was accomplished with the participation of students from the Al Noor Arabic and Quran Learning Center, affiliated with Awqaf's Department of Religious Call and Guidance, as part of an initiative aimed at instilling values of charity and humanitarian work in the hearts of younger generations and teaching them the precepts of the Prophetic Sunnah.
Head of the Zakat Services Department at Awqaf, Yousef Hassan Al Hammadi, announced that the department had recently set the value of a sa of the local staple food for the year 1446 AH at QR15 per person (equivalent to 2.5 kilograms), in adherence to the Prophetic Sunnah, ensuring that Zakat Al Fitr is distributed as food reflective of the common sustenance of the people.
He further emphasized that the Zakat Al Fitr parcels contained essential food items, mainly rice, flour, and lentils, stressing that the department was keen to carefully select the highest quality available in the domestic market to ensure nutritious items are provided to underprivileged families and to bring joy during Eid Al Fitr.
Al Hammadi highlighted that all Zakat Al Fitr funds are converted into food and distributed to eligible recipients at home at a rate of 100%, with no administrative deductions, in compliance with Islamic law and in adherence to the department's motto in this regard.
In collaboration with one of the leading delivery companies in Qatar, the department ensured the distribution of food baskets to eligible families before the Eid Al-Fitr prayer, adhering to the prescribed time and safeguarding the dignity of recipients. This initiative aligns with the departments efforts to foster community partnerships and reinforce values of solidarity and compassion. Students from the center were engaged in packing the parcels, with the objective of having them internalize social responsibility and charitable values while involving them in supporting families in need during Ramadan.
In addition, the department emphasized that Zakat Al Fitr may be dispensed earlier in Ramadan by authorizing the department to allocate it at the prescribed time, ensuring its timely distribution before the Eid prayer and discharging the givers obligation in accordance with Islamic jurisprudence.
To facilitate this process, the department has implemented advanced digital solutions, enabling individuals and corporations to calculate and remit their Zakat via its smart application, available either through Apple and Android platforms or via its official website .
