Thai Premier Prevails in No-Confidence Vote

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Thai Premier Paetongtarn Shinawatra successfully overcame a no-confidence motion, garnering the backing of 319 lawmakers in the 493-seat lower house of parliament.

A total of 162 legislators voted against the head of the Pheu Thai Party, who was appointed the 31st prime minister of Thailand the previous August.

“Every vote, whether in support or against, will serve as motivation for me and the Cabinet to remain committed to working for our fellow citizens moving forward,” Paetongtarn stated, 38, on X after securing the parliament's confidence.

Paetongtarn, the daughter of previous Thai Premier Thaksin Shinawatra, is the third individual from the influential Shinawatra family to become prime minister. Her aunt, Yingluck Shinawatra, had previously worked in this position.

To become the prime minister of Thailand, a candidate needs a minimum of 247 votes.
