China Slams US Interference In Venezuela Over Trump Oil Tariff Threat

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIJING, March 25 (KUNA) -- China on Tuesday expressed strong opposition to a US decision to impose 25 percent tariff on countries that purchase oil and gas from Venezuela.
This came in a statement by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a regular press conference, after the order signed by President Trump on Monday, which will take effect on April 2.
"We call on the US to stop interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs, abolish the illegal unilateral sanctions imposed on Venezuela," said Jiakun.
He stressed that a trade war would have "no winners" and "imposing additional levies and tariffs will only lead to American businesses and consumers bearing greater losses".
According to news reports, trade between China and Venezuela reached USD 6.4 billion in 2024, a 52.5 percent year-on-year increase, while Chinese imports from the Latin American country reached USD 1.6 billion. (end)
