Houthi Group Targets Israeli Airport, U.S. Warships
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the Yemeni Houthi party announced that it had launched two missiles at Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel, as regional tensions escalate due to current Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
The Houthis stated that the missiles were hypersonic ballistic projectiles, marking the fifth such assault in recent days.
Israeli officials did not immediately respond to the Houthi claim of the attack. Alongside this, the Houthi group also reported targeting "hostile" US warships in the Red Sea, though no additional information was provided about the incident.
Earlier on Monday night, the Israeli military confirmed it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen before it could enter Israeli airspace.
However, local media outlets contradicted this, reporting that the missile was destroyed while already inside Israeli airspace, and they also reported debris from the intercepting missile falling within Israeli territory.
Since late 2023, the Houthi group has been attacking ships with connections to Israel that pass through the Red and Arabian Seas, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden, using missiles and drones.
The group has stated that these attacks are meant to demonstrate solidarity with the Gaza Strip, while also disrupting international trade routes.
