Trump Imposes Tariffs on Countries Importing Oil from Venezuela
(MENAFN) On Monday, United States Leader Donald Trump inked an executive order that places tariffs on regions importing Venezuelan oil.
Starting on April 2, the order mandates that a 25 percent tariff could be applied to all goods entering the United States from any nation that imports oil from Venezuela, either directly or through intermediary nations.
The executive order outlines that the actions and policies of "the regime of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat" to US national security and foreign policy.
This move reflects ongoing concerns about Venezuela’s government and its international impact.
Earlier that day, Trump announced the imposition of a "secondary" tariff on Venezuela, citing allegations that Caracas secretly dispatched tens of thousands of gang members to the US.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio further emphasized that the US will not tolerate any foreign countries or their oil firms engaging in the production, extraction, or export of oil and related products in collaboration with "the Maduro regime" in Venezuela.
Rubio commented on X, stating, "This is a regime that has consistently stolen elections, pillaged from its people, and colluded with our enemies. Any country that allows its companies to produce, extract, or export from Venezuela will be subject to new tariffs, and any companies will be subject to sanctions."
