Arab League Underlines Enhancing Consumer Protection Through Legislative Frameworks

CAIRO, March 24 (KUNA) -- The League of Arab States underlined on Monday enhancing consumer protection through legislative frameworks that would help Arab states arrive at enhanced national consumer protection legislations.
A league-issued statement indicated that this on occasion of the Arab Consumer Protection Week and in line with the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
The League's Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Ali Al-Malki explained that the first edition of the Arab Consumer Protection Week took place in 2023 in Oman with the theme of protecting young Arab consumer to build promising future.
The second, he added, was in 2024 in Bahrain and revolved around Arab women and consumer protection.
This year's "a just transition to sustainable lifestyle" focuses on ensuring accessibility to basic consumer needs including food and energy, protecting the safety of people, as well as availability of healthy and sustainable options accessible to all and within an acceptable price range, rather than burdening consumers.
Al-Malki further commented that a cooperation protocol has been approved to coordinate efforts between Arab states, raise awareness on consumer rights, and spread culture of sustainable consumerism. (end)
