Li Qiang Highlights Importance of China, U.S. Relations Amid Trade Tensions
(MENAFN) Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang emphasized that relations between Beijing and Washington are currently at a critical point during his meeting with US Senator Steve Daines and several American business leaders in Beijing, amidst ongoing tariff disputes between the two nations.
Li pointed out, “If China and the US make peace, we both benefit; if they fight, we both lose. We should replace confrontation with dialogue and zero-sum games with win-win cooperation.
We hope that China and the US will work together to promote the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of US-China relations,” as reported by a Chinese newspaper.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed China’s openness, stating that the country "welcomes companies from all over the world, including the US" and promised that China would “actively address their legitimate demands, treat domestic and foreign companies as equals, and continue to foster a sound business environment.”
Senator Daines, who has supported United States Leader Donald Trump, commented on the remarkable transformation of China’s economy, stating, “When we moved to China, China's economy might have been about USD500 billion or a bit more in 1991. We have watched the growth and change in China over the course of the last 34 years.”
Daines also voiced anticipation for more high-level discussions between the two countries in the offing. The senator had previously attended the annual China Development Forum 2025 in Beijing, alongside American business executives.
