EU Against Resumed Attacks By Israeli Occupation Forces On Gaza -- Kallas

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 23 (KUNA) -- The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas reaffirmed the EU opposition to continued aggression by the Israeli occupation forces on Gaza Strip.
In joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty after their talks in Cairo on Sunday, she appreciated Egypt's efforts to stabilize the Middle East region.
Egypt played a critical role in negotiating the Gaza ceasefire-hostage release deal, Kallas said, noting that the "EU and Egypt are important partners."
"Today in Cairo, we discussed the situation in Gaza and in Syria," the EU foreign policy chief pointed out.
Reiterating the call on the Israeli occupation authorities to allow unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to the besieged people in Gaza, she urged doubling the efforts to help the ceasefire deal hold.
Kallas lauded the EU-Egypt cooperation in a host of fields, including politics, trade, immigration, security and education.
"Our cooperation has deepened substantially since the signing of the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership last year," she added.
On his part, Abdelatty said the talks with the European side dealt with the plan for Gaza reconstruction approved by the emergency Arab summit in Cairo in early March.
Under the plan, a committee, made up for 15 unpoliticized persons from Gaza, has been set up to take over governance and the security affairs of the Strip for six months, he said.
Concurrent with the process, the Palestinian National Authority will be empowered to redeploy in, and take over the management of, Gaza, he disclosed.
On the relationship with the EU, he said it was upgraded last year to a comprehensive strategic partnership covering the political, economic, trade, immigration, security, defense, educational and cultural areas. (end)
