Putin aide unveils date of upcoming Russia-US discussions in Riyadh

(MENAFN) A new round of negotiations between Russian and US officials is scheduled for Monday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy aide, Yury Ushakov. Senator Grigory Karasin and Sergey Beseda, an aide to the head of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), will lead the Russian delegation, Ushakov confirmed on Thursday. Both negotiators are experienced in international issues.

A US delegation has also been assembled for the talks, Ushakov noted. The meeting follows a phone call between US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Ushakov, during which they agreed to meet in Riyadh to discuss key issues, including the potential implementation of a "maritime ceasefire" in the Black Sea.

Putin supported the idea of a maritime ceasefire during a call with US President Donald Trump, and both leaders agreed to begin negotiations on refining the details. Ushakov expressed hope that Monday’s consultations would be productive.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced that Washington would also hold separate talks with Ukrainian representatives in Riyadh next Monday, either before or alongside the Russia-US discussions.
