Hamad International Airport reaches 65 mn passenger capacity

(MENAFN) Hamad International Airport in Qatar has recently inaugurated its new concourses D and E, significantly increasing its yearly passenger handling capacity to more than 65 million. This expansion strengthens the airport's ambition to establish itself as a prominent worldwide aviation center.

The project, finished ahead of the planned timeline, has added 17 new aircraft gates, bringing the total number to 62. The airport's terminal space has expanded by 14 percent, now covering 842,000 square meters.

According to Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, "This achievement reflects our commitment to operational excellence and supports Qatar's economic growth under the Qatar National Vision 2030."

The fresh concourses incorporate advanced self-boarding technology to accelerate passenger movement and introduce 2,700 square meters of new retail and restaurant areas.

This growth is part of a larger development initiative that started in 2018. This initiative has included the creation of the ORCHARD, a 6,000-square-meter indoor tropical garden, which was introduced in 2022.

Hamad International Airport was awarded the "World's Best Airport" by Skytrax in 2024.
