Northc Unveils Advanced Data Center In Winterthur, Switzerland

European data center operator NorthC Group has officially inaugurated its latest facility in Winterthur, Switzerland, marking the company's fourth data center in the country. This strategic expansion underscores NorthC's commitment to providing regional data center services with global connectivity, catering to the escalating demand for secure and sustainable digital infrastructure.

The Winterthur data center, strategically situated near the Turm Areal, encompasses approximately 1,100 square meters and boasts an initial IT capacity of 1.8 megawatts, with provisions for future expansion. This facility offers tailored colocation solutions, secure and direct cloud connections, and guaranteed bandwidths to support business-critical applications across various industries. Notably, the data center operates entirely on renewable energy, aligning with NorthC's sustainability strategy for 2030, which includes initiatives to responsibly dissipate residual heat.

Interconnected with NorthC's existing facilities in Münchenstein and Biel via a high-speed backbone, the Winterthur site ensures seamless and reliable connections to a multitude of cloud and IT service providers. This integration enhances the company's ability to offer customized solutions that meet the highest standards of quality, security, and sustainability.

Patrik Hofer, Managing Director of NorthC Switzerland, emphasized the importance of regional presence combined with international reach. The inauguration of the Winterthur data center has been positively received by the local business community. Dr. Ralph Peterli, Managing Director of the Winterthur Chamber of Commerce and Employers' Association, highlighted the significance of secure IT infrastructures for local companies. He noted,“Winterthur is home to many technology leaders from a wide variety of sectors. Whether they are large corporations or SMEs, all companies manage ever-increasing volumes of data and must be able to guarantee their security at all times.”

NorthC's expansion into Winterthur is part of a broader international growth strategy. The company, formed in 2019 from the merger of Dutch data center firms TDCG and NLDC, has been actively extending its footprint across Europe. In recent years, NorthC acquired Netrics in Switzerland and IP Exchange in Germany, signaling its commitment to serving diverse markets. The company also operates 13 facilities in the Netherlands and has announced plans to add 11 megawatts of IT capacity to its Dutch data center portfolio.

The Winterthur facility is strategically positioned to serve as a regional data communication hub, offering companies access to a wide range of connectivity providers, including Colt, Gas&Com, and Init7. This strategic location, combined with NorthC's commitment to sustainability and regional focus, positions the company to effectively meet the evolving needs of businesses in the Winterthur region and beyond.
