Sweden's Premier Warns Europe Must Reduce AI Regulations

(MENAFN) Europe is in danger of falling behind in the global artificial intelligence (AI) competition unless it loosens its stringent regulations, warned Sweden's Premier, Ulf Kristersson, on Thursday.

Addressing at the Techarena event in Stockholm, Kristersson called on European lawmakers to apply a more adaptable method to AI regulation to stay competitive with global economic giants like the United States and China.

He emphasized the urgent need for Europe to improve its performance, noting, "I think we really need to step up in Europe ... the American economy, Chinese economy have been growing far faster compared to the European economies over the last 20 years," according to a news agency.

Kristersson added that if these changes are not made, "Europe will actually become some kind of a museum compared to other parts of the world."

His comments reflect similar concerns voiced by other European presidents during the Paris AI Action Summit the previous week.

At the summit, officials highlighted the importance of enhancing Europe's influence in AI research and development.
