Radio Free Europe Takes Legal Actions Against U.S. government
(MENAFN) Radio Free Europe (RFE/RL) has initiated legal action against the US Agency for Global Media and its officials in an effort to prevent the discontinuation of its federal funding, according to an announcement made on Wednesday.
The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, argues that the decision to cut funding for RFE/RL, which includes Radio Liberty, infringes upon federal law and the US Constitution.
The statement emphasized that such a move would undermine Congress's exclusive control over federal spending.
In the statement, it was highlighted: “The complaint makes the case that denying RFE/RL the funds that Congress appropriated for it violates federal laws – including the US Constitution, which vests Congress with exclusive power over federal spending.”
Steve Capus, the head of RFE/RL, expressed his stance in the statement, saying: “This is not the time to cede terrain to the propaganda and censorship of America’s adversaries. We believe the law is on our side and that the celebration of our demise by despots around the world is premature.”
