Jordan Strengthens Partnerships In São Paulo

(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – The Ambassador of Jordan in Brasília, Maen Masadeh, will have a series of meetings with companies and industry associations this week in São Paulo. On Tuesday (18), he was welcomed by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC ) President William Adib Dib Jr. and International Relations Vice President & Secretary-General Mohamad Mourad at the institution's headquarters in São Paulo, where they discussed ways to increase trade exchanges between the two countries.

He has meetings scheduled this week with fertilizer lobby Anda, pharmaceutical company Eurofarma, the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit), the Brazilian Pharmaceutical Inputs Industry Association (Abiquifi), the Brazilian Software Companies Association (Abes), the government of the state of São Paulo, A.C. Camargo Hospital, and the Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies (Abav). During these meetings, opportunities to expand business between the two countries“in a mutually beneficial relationship,” as Masadeh told ANBA, will be discussed.

Brazilian exports to Jordan grew

In 2024, Brazil exported USD 540.3 million in products to Jordan, a 34.1% increase compared to 2023, mainly in chicken, corn, and coffee. Brazil imported USD 110.3 million, a 14.2% decrease. The leading imported products were fertilizers. The total trade volume amounted to USD 650.6 million, a 22.4% increase in the same comparison.

One way to promote the increase in exports and imports is by organizing a trade mission to the Arab country, which is being arranged by the ABCC and also includes Morocco. The trip to Morocco is scheduled to take place between May 27 and 30. In Jordan, between May 30 and June 2, there will be a seminar, technical visits to government agencies and companies, and business meetings with companies from the sectors that met with Masadeh this week, as well as food companies, especially commodities.

“In recent years, we've seen growth in relations between Brazil and Jordan, but there's room for more growth and for greater presence of Brazil in Jordan and of Jordan in Brazil. This is what the holding of this mission aims to foster,” said the diplomat to ANBA.“Brazil has a lot of potential in [chicken] supply, soy, and many other important sectors,” he said.

The trade mission has begun to be organized by the ABCC, an institution that implemented the Easy Trade system for issuing digital certification documents in export operations. Jordan was the first country to adopt the system, which eliminates the use of paper and enhances the security and speed of document issuance.

The meeting on Tuesday also discussed the promotion and expansion of tourism between the two countries. Jordan, the diplomat reminded, is a religious tourism destination because it hosts major symbols and sites for Christianity. Brazil, he pointed out, has natural beauties, and the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Foz do Iguaçu, the latter in Paraná state, are particularly appealing to the Jordanian public.

Masadeh has been in Brasília for three years, having previously served in Romania, Qatar, Sudan, and other countries. During his stint at the diplomatic post in Brazil, there have been three commercial missions from Jordan to Brazil and one Brazilian agribusiness mission to Jordan.

The meeting was also attended by the ABCC's administrative vice president Nahid Chicani, treasurer Mohamad Abdouni Neto, institutional relations director Fernanda Baltazar, translator Saleh Haidar Hassan, and institutional relations advisor Bassel Abou Latif.
