Many Ukrainian drones get thwarted over Russia

(MENAFN) Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 126 Ukrainian drones targeting multiple regions overnight, the Defense Ministry reported. The majority of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were shot down over the Volgograd and Voronezh regions.

According to the Telegram channel Shot, the attack on Volgograd involved around 20 explosions, allegedly targeting a local oil refinery. Regional Governor Andrey Bocharov confirmed that drone debris caused a minor fire, which was quickly extinguished, and stated that no injuries or significant infrastructure damage were reported.

In Belgorod, residential buildings were damaged by explosives carried by drones, leading to shattered windows and fires ignited by debris. However, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated that, according to initial reports, no civilians were harmed.

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday morning, Kiev launched a large-scale, multi-wave drone assault on several Russian regions. Russian air defenses intercepted 337 drones in total, including 91 over Moscow Region. That attack resulted in three civilian deaths and multiple injuries.

Following these strikes, U.S. and Ukrainian officials met in Saudi Arabia, where they issued a joint statement proposing a 30-day ceasefire with Moscow.

On Friday, just hours after U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian forces repelled another wave of Ukrainian drone attacks.
