Telegram CEO Returns to Dubai Following Investigation
(MENAFN) Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, confirmed on Monday that he has returned to Dubai after spending several months in France due to an investigation into alleged criminal activities on the platform.
In a post on his Telegram account, Durov shared: “As you may have heard, I’ve returned to Dubai after spending several months in France due to an investigation related to the activity of criminals on Telegram. The process is ongoing, but it feels great to be home.” He also expressed gratitude to the judges for granting him permission to go back to Dubai.
Durov, who holds Russian, French, and Emirati citizenship, was arrested in August 2024 after arriving at Le Bourget airport near Paris aboard his private jet. He faced charges of "complicity" in the spread of child abuse images and drug dealing but was later released on €5 million ($5.4 million) bail under judicial oversight.
The Russian government described Durov’s arrest as "politically motivated," adding further complexity to the case. French authorities have removed travel constraints on Durov for the period between March 15 and April 7, as indicated by media sources.
