Libyan education Minister jailed for corruption

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Libya’s Attorney General’s office reported that Education Minister Musa al-Magaryaf received a 3.5-year prison sentence after being convicted of misconduct and misusing his authority.

The case originated from al-Magaryaf’s role in overseeing the contracting process for printing and distributing school textbooks. According to the Attorney General’s office, he breached principles of fairness, favoring certain parties and using intervention inappropriately.

The last court ruling imposed a 3.5-year jail term, a fine of 1,000 Libyan dinars (about 207 USD), along with a suspension of civil rights during his imprisonment plus an extra year post-release.
