Russian, North Korean envoys hold talks on potential Russia-Ukraine ceasefire

(MENAFN) On Sunday, as part of ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, official news outlets stated that North Korea's Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui held discussions with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in Pyongyang.

On Saturday, a North Korean news agency revealed that a day following Rudenko's arrival, Choe held meetings with him regarding a potential ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Additionally, the discussions involved officials from the North Korean Foreign Ministry, as well as Russian Ambassador to North Korea Aleksandr Matsegora. However, no additional information regarding the specifics of the negotiations was disclosed.

A South Korean news agency reported that Rudenko's trip to Pyongyang is believed to be part of continued attempts to follow up on the agreement of 2024, which stipulates mutual support in the event of an attack on either nation.

This visit follows Ukraine's agreement to a 30-day ceasefire proposal put forward by the US the previous week.

Both Choe and Rudenko had represented their respective governments during the pact’s endorsement process.

Additionally, on Saturday Rudenko met separately with North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jong-gyu, where they agreed on concrete steps to enhance two-sided collaboration, in alignment with the strategic partnership pact inked last June, as reported by the North Korean news agency.
